Dawgs Takeover

Image
The Dawgs cross the Mason-Dixon Line for the first time since 1965 and UGA fans were sure to follow. I was one of the 40,000 fans who made the trip and attended the legendary game in South Bend vs Notre Dame. There was so much hype leading up to, during and after the trip. Chicago was full of UGA fans who also took over the Cubs stadium Friday and Bears stadium Sunday. As we strolled through the city, it was non-stop chatter and shouting with passing fellow UGA fans. There was such a strong sense of togetherness with all of us no matter what age congregating there to cheer on the Dawgs. Social media posts were flooded with UGA fans documenting their travels and we met up with many friends that way. UGA took over bars, restaurants, tailgates and stadiums. We may have been a bit obnoxious, but hey we got the job done and had fun while doing so. The marketing of the sporting event brought together so many people and social media platforms shared the experiences. There were many trending h...

'Tis The Hurricane Season

Image
This past week the news has been flooded (pardon my pun) with coverage of Hurricane Harvey. The category 4 storm caused detrimental flooding and destruction to Houston and other parts of Texas. Thousands of people were forced into shelters and lost their homes, valuable belongings, communities, memories and in few cases pets, friends, and family members. It was absolutely terrible and still continues to be with the after effects. Every major media outlet consistently reported on the disaster by sharing candid photos and experiences of people being rescued or stranded. The helplessness and heartbreak in their expressions connect to any normal human on a different level. The photos also show the community coming together to help out in such a time of need. Many marketing tactics were put into effect in order to raise awareness and money for those suffering. The media platforms provided instant updates and opportunities for people all over the United States and other countries to reach ...

To End My Summer

After studying abroad in Cannes, I immediately flew to New York to begin my month long internship with Newton Baby. This was my first real life experience working within digital marketing. To be honest, I was terrified while walking down Fifth Avenue for my first day knowing I would be working with professionals. I had a replaying image in my head of being bossed around and yelled at similar to Anne Hathaway in Devil Wears Prada. However, I was very relieved when I arrived and was kindly greeted and situated into my desk within the marketing department. It was a comfortable and collaborative space and everyone was super helpful and willing to teach me about various tools and aspects of the company. Newton Baby is a start-up company that launched a new product called the Newton Wovenaire Crib Mattress, which is completely breathable, washable, hypo-allergenic and 100% recyclable. It was exciting to promote such an innovative product. I was involved in monitoring data analytics, ca...

Commercial #3

The final commercial I analyzed was called Ivory by Wonderful Agency in LA for their product Wonderful Pistachio's. I chose to watch this film because the company usually has good commercials revolved around their popular slogan "get crackin." However, Ivory did not live up to my expectations. The film consists of one main character that is a digitalized elephant in a real airport setting. The huge elephant is being searched at security for illegally importing ivory and all of his bags of pistachio's are displayed and being checked as well. He declares that he needs the protein of the pistachio's to get him through situations like these. Overall, this commercial was really boring because the whole thing took place in the same setting and there was no interaction between characters. The Wonderful Pistachio's brand wasn't displayed nearly as well as it could've been. The pistachio bags were just off to the side being searched while the elephant was too. ...

Cannes Festival Day 8

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it to the last day of the festival. I had planned on taking the 12:40 train, but when I arrived the station was closed due to suspicious baggage that was found and unclaimed. I became worried that something serious was going on. It's so sad that we now live in a world where we constantly think about possible terrorist attacks. It's good that precautions are being taken, but terrifying how easily a single person can cause such disaster. Several times while sitting on the train I have thought about how any person around could attack at any second and we'd all just be sitting ducks. It's scary realizing how helpless you'd be in that type of situation. I get anxious easily, but just have to remind myself that I can't live my life in fear because you can never determine what will happen. There's lots of freak accidents in life that nobody can control. I did notice that throughout the festival there were heavily geared guar...

Cannes Festival Day 7

Pride Day Friday! YouTube Beach hosted Pride Day for the first time and they went all out! We were some of the first ones to enter in and it was thrilling because of all the energy, bright colors and happiness. It felt good to be apart of supporting a community that has been through a lot of hard times. LGBT is evolving and progressing in a positive direction, which is amazing. After taking it all in, I attended the first talk of the day called A Brands Power to Shift Social Rights hosted by Google. They addressed the importance for gender and LGBT awareness within advertising. There's much social media backlash towards the community. Times are changing and people should start to embrace individuals for who they are and let them live their own life to the fullest. Companies are starting to act as a force of good and attempting to end discrimination. For example, Ben & Jerry's refused to give 2 scoops of the same ice cream flavor to anyone who was opposed to gay marriage. Ro...

Cannes Festival Day 6

I started off the day by going to Facebook Beach to grab an ice coffee and check out the live painting scene. I met and talked to the artist named Alexa Meade, who takes a person and turns them into a painting. Her creativeness disrupts our expectations of where and how you can interact with art. I took photos in the live three-dimension painting with painted probs, backdrop and male model. The photos turned out really cool and I really appreciated her different style of work. I now follow her on Instagram and will continue to keep up with her progress. I headed over to see a session at the Entertainment Live called Future Five: Fitness Creators Changing How Millennials Stay Healthy. It was hosted by Whistle Sports and I wanted to see it because I'm interested in fitness and nutrition. However, it was a let down because all they did was show a video of five influential fitness creators and I had only heard of one. It was pretty boring and I didn't learn anything new. The comp...
